from the Committee on Ministry and Counsel Miss Quaker Manners - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dear Miss Quaker Manners, Recently I really wanted to share a great joy with Meeting during the “Joys and Sorrows” period, but worship was closed before I got a chance to speak. Is it okay to speak right after someone else to make sure I get my chance? Signed, Quieted by a Hand Shake Dear Q.B.A.H.S., Miss Quaker Manners cannot think of any circumstance in which it would be proper to speak in Meeting for Worship as soon as another speaker sits down. Gentle Friends should be seeking to consider carefully the words just spoken, rather than thinking about what they want to say at such a time. Those appointed closers by the Meeting will strive to wait at least a minute after a message before closing the Meeting for Worship, so there should be time for both reflection and for additional messages that may arise. We hope to hear from thee in time, Friend. Patiently, M.Q.M. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Dear Miss Quaker Manners, I have a terrible time getting to Meeting for Worship on time. What is the proper etiquette if one arrives late? Signed, Too Often Tardy Dear T.O.T., Miss Quaker Manners has noted with regret that there are frequent instances of people arriving late, leaving early, and generally moving about during Meeting for Worship, to the detriment of the depth of worship for all members of the Meeting. “Better late than never” holds some truth, but on time is always better than late. Dear Friend, please make every effort to arrive a bit earlier, and if you find that you are late, please enter quietly at 20 after the hour, or later with great care not to come in while a message is being shared. Deeply, M.Q.M. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - |
